Intro to Birdland

I live near a magical wonderland which I call Birdland (not its real name). It’s my favorite place to walk, take photos of birds, and enjoy the beauty of nature.  This area is part of a 22-mile trail system maintained by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers centered around Hodges Village Dam in Oxford, MA. The little area I love is the wetland area that surrounds Wellington Brook. You can see this area on the map below the photo gallery.

Birdland is also a community – over the years, I have met many other walkers/hikers who come back again and again. We recognize each other and share the delights we’ve discovered on our walks. Waterbirds, herons, birds, turtles, beaver and other creatures are constant delights. The gallery below shows some of the regular visitors, including a family of nesting osprey each year.
